The Mt. Zion Community Church stands on a hill overlooking the Current River, just above Akers Ferry and just below the”Devil’s Backbone” on Highway K in Shannon County.
fall hiking
Every fall, the Ozark Riverways Foundation supports the ONSR with the fall hiking series. Guided hikes along the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers are scheduled each weekend to some of the out-of-the-way places full of history and scenic beauty. As the color changes high in the mixed white oak and pine forest, below those towering trees the spice bush is turning a bright yellow and the dogwoods a soft red. The paw paws and persimmons are falling to the ground, if you are lucky enough to find them. Come and enjoy the river country, not by water, but by land.
